The life of a project manager can be very complex. In the course of various projects you get to learn quite a lot and most of it can be found in literature. So it is that special and individual experience that I would rather share with you. The most prominent tool you need for the job is Email. And as life dictates you run into various discussions which can mainly be described as ellaborate and complex cascaded emails. Having written many of such Emails I have often asked myself - what is the real message that I was actually trying to convey - I would then summarise the emails with particular statements with the core message of the Email. The following list is a collection of such statements from real life projects:

  • When the a project is running smoothly status reports usually tend to appear bothersome and infact many people might view them as obsolete. However during a crisis period this becomes a pitfall since you will have to endure very hard questioning. Without these reports you are literary nacked!
  • There are many things you can question in a project or program. However it is more important to focus on the goals of a project for orientation and as guiding principles. Success also means flexibility and agility. We are all get stressed and not everything runs as expected - However from the best we expect the best!
  • It is that extra mile that we take that makes the difference
  • There is an idiom that goes - To miss the forest for the trees - Sometimes it is better to accept the notion of a partial forest rather than to endure an endless battle from tree to tree
