Mobile phones and their role in our lives have become indispensable...

Hotels, shopping mauls and airports etc. offer free WLAN services, vast amounts of private users use their mobile devices within their homes for nearly everything. This trend is marked by the avalanche-like development of Apps for apple, Google and Nokia. We note a convergence of media - TV, internet, mobile devices, land line etc. On top of it comes the developments in the electronics sector and trends in nano technology.

Companies are confronted with a flood of technologies and must reconsider their architectural road maps. Trend setters and leaders will those that manage to harness these developments and technologies into their products. Which therefore brings up the following questions:

  • How can we build application which integrate seamlessly into our corporate landscape and at the at the same time remain accessible for mobile devices?
  • Which planning horizon are still realistic - 2,3 5 years?
  • Which influence will these developments have on the application landscapes?
  • Which mobile technologies will assert themselves and how can these be taken into consideration?

•    How should a CIO generally budget  such developments considering the financial crisis?
